Exclusive Interview: DJ Ron G

DJ Ron G, also known as “The Mixtape King” & “Youngest in Charge” is a legendary DJ straight outta Harlem, NY and is truly a big part of hip hop history.

He has worked with many well known artists throughout his career such as The Notorious B.I.G., Mary J Blige, 2Pac, Raekwon, KRS-One, Redman, DMX, Fat Joe, R. Kelly, Jennifer Lopez, Michale Jackson, Big L, Kid Capri, Usher, LL Cool J and many more.

We even got a chance to work together on, Full Breach: Volume 4 back in 2013.

So we have been very fortunate enough to catch up with Ron G once again and this time we were able to do an exclusive interview, for all of you RobLunaMusic.com readers out there, here we go!

 

Mr. Ron G, you’ve been in the music industry since the birth of hip hop..what inspired you to be a DJ?

“Listening to DJ RED ALERT & living across the street from the world famous RoofTop Roller Skating Rink.”

 

Who would you say are some the biggest influences of your career?

“RED ALERT, KID CAPRI, DR.DRE, STARCHILD.”

 


On this one song by Nas called “One Time 4 Your Mind“, You can hear just how influential DJ Ron G has become, where you can hear a verse from Nas that goes “Ron G’s in the cassette deck, rockin’ the shit G.”)


Are you religious at all? What are your beliefs?

“I believe in God.”

 

What do you remember most about working with Biggie Smalls?

“He was lyrically talented, funny at times & had a good heart.”

 

Do you miss the old days of going to record stores?

“Yes.”

 

Do you have any regrets or anything you wish you could do over again?

“No regrets, I learned thru experiences.”

 

You’ve had huge success in your career…what would you say was your favorite gig so far?

“Touring with Usher in Australia.”

 

What do you think about the music game today?

“I love it. Music Industry just need more love & respect in it.”

 

Who is your favorite rapper out now?

“Lox.”

 

And Finally…What advice would you give to new artists starting out in the music biz?

“Promote your self, Education on the music industry, never give up, focus & work hard.”
