Music Awards You Should Be Watching

taylor swiftThe music awards season starts every year in January, where we get to hear about the nominations and see the many artists and producers receive accolades for their hard work.

We put together this list of music award shows you should be watching, all nicely categorized by month.

JANUARY

People’s Choice Awards  recognizes the people and work in pop culture and winners are based on public votes.

FEBRUARY

Grammy Awards are on CBS and have been around since 1959 and are by far the most respected in the music industry.

BRIT Awards are the British equivalent of the Grammy Awards.

NAACP Image Awards have been around in 1967 and they honor the achievements of “people of color”.

MARCH

Kid’s Choice Awards appears on Nickelodeon and winners are decided by the viewers.

iHeartRadio Music Awards are fairly new, having only started in 2014 and appear on NBC.

APRIL

Academy Of Country Music Awards are highly respected and established since 1966.

Radio Disney Music Awards started out as radio only but in 2013 they began televising.

Billboard Latin Music Awards started back in 1994 and they honor the music & culture of latinos.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was established in 1983 has an annual “induction week”.

MAY

Billboard Music Awards started in 1989 and are on ABC.

JUNE & JULY

BET Awards started in 2001 and they mainly focus on hip hop & r&b music.

CMT Music Awards honor Country music and started back to 1967 and are held in Nashville, Tennessee.

AUGUST & SEPTEMBER

MTV Video Music Awards have been around for over 30 years.

Teen Choice Awards is on FOX and it covers mostly pop, country and hip hop.

OCTOBER

BET Hip Hop Awards started in 2006.

NOVEMBER & DECEMBER

American Music Awards are on ABC and were started in 1973 to compete against the Grammys.

CMA Awards are on ABC and are about Country music.

Latin Grammy Awards have been around for over 15 years and they honor latin music.

Soul Train Awards started in 1987 and they honor “black” music.

YouTube Music Awards started in 2013 and are online only.

Dove Awards are held by the Gospel Music Association.

American Country Awards were created in 2010 by FOX.

ALMA Awards are on MSNBC and they honor latinos and their achievements in music, television and film.
